Our Philosophy

All of the school’s instructors share their experience and knowledge with their students, focusing on traditional Irish Dance techniques and proper form. Students are encouraged to learn at a pace suited to their needs, while working with the teachers as well as other dancers in the class. Students are expected to further their skill and ability through participation at class, and regular practice at home.

ImageDance steps are tailored to fit competition levels and requirements as per the rules of the Western Canadian Irish Dance Teacher's Association. As the school is competitive, dancers regularly attend feisanna the region, and set goals to achieve success in both solo and team competitions. National and International competition opportunities are available to dancers who reach Championship level and achieve specific qualifications.

Dancers are taught to be supportive of one another and to practice good sportsmanship at all times when representing the school. A healthy competitive environment is created by a low pressure approach, and students are reminded to keep perspective and concentrate on achieving personal best. Dancers must be able to handle winning as well as losing, while maintaining a positive attitude and love of the dance for the right reasons.

Students also participate in performances on a regular basis, at shows that are appropriate to their level and ability. Performance skills and techniques are emphasized, and as dancers progress, they are introduced to more complicated choreographies and routines. Performing builds confidence and courage in dancers, and helps them build skills that assist them in other areas of life.

Dancers and parents are encouraged to communicate individual goals and needs to the instructors, while trusting the abilities of the teachers to guide them properly. Private lessons are available for dancers who wish to have personal one-on-one instruction or coaching.

Our parent’s groups, the TDL Irish Dance Society (Calgary) and the S.S.I.D.P.A. (Saskatoon), engage in fundraising activities and organizes events that benefit the dancers of the school. All families must join and participate, but there are several different options for fundraising, depending on your interest.
